Everything you need to know before getting behind the wheel in Seychelles
Seychelles drives on the left side of the road - the same as the UK. Roads on Mahé are generally narrow, winding and hilly, especially inland. Take care on mountain passes and coastal switchbacks, where oncoming traffic can appear suddenly around bends. Speed limits and seat belt laws are strictly enforced.
Parking in Victoria (the capital) and at popular beaches can be limited, particularly on weekends and public holidays. Most car parks in Victoria town centre are free, with time restrictions during business hours. At beaches such as Beau Vallon and Anse Intendance, informal roadside parking is the norm.
There are no parking meters in Seychelles. Roadside signs indicate any restrictions. Be careful not to block private driveways or narrow beach access tracks - cars parked on coastal roads can be ticketed during peak tourist season.
Fuel stations on Mahé are operated primarily by Seypec (the national petroleum company). The main stations are located in Victoria, Beau Vallon, Anse aux Pins (near SEZ Airport) and along the east coast road. Fuel prices are government-regulated and relatively stable.
Current fuel prices: unleaded petrol (91 octane) approx. SCR 20–22/litre (approx. €1.35–1.50), diesel approx. SCR 18–20/litre. Most stations are open 7 days a week from 07:00 to 21:00. Only a few 24-hour stations exist - fill up before heading to remote areas.
There are no toll roads in Seychelles. All roads on Mahé, Praslin and La Digue are free to use for all vehicles. The main route on Mahé is the coastal road circling the island, supplemented by the mountain crossroads connecting the east and west coasts.
The Sans Soucis mountain road (linking Victoria to the west coast via Morne Seychellois National Park) is a popular scenic drive but is very narrow and steep in sections. Drive slowly and yield to oncoming traffic on the hairpin bends. No charge applies for this or any other road.
Discover the best of Seychelles with your rental car - landmarks, hidden gems and scenic drives

A stunning wild beach on the southwest coast of Mahé, famous for its dramatic surf, granite boulders and untouched scenery. One of the most photographed beaches in the Seychelles - spectacular at sunset.

The smallest capital city in the world - a charming mix of colonial Creole architecture, the famous Clock Tower, Sir Selwyn Clarke Market and the Botanical Gardens. A must-visit for culture, local food and shopping.
